How to Open a Bank of Punjab Account for E-Bike Installment Deductions
Why a Bank of Punjab Account Is Required
The CM Punjab E-Bike Teacher Scheme 2026 uses the Bank of Punjab (BOP) as its exclusive financing partner. The 0% interest installment plan, the automatic salary deduction mechanism, and the subsidy disbursement are all processed through BOP's banking infrastructure. To participate in the installment program after being selected in the balloting, you must have an active BOP salary account from which the monthly installment is automatically deducted. No other bank's account can be used for this purpose.
If your current government salary is deposited into a different bank — such as HBL, NBP, UBL, or Allied Bank — you will need to either open a new BOP account specifically for the e-bike installment or transfer your salary account to BOP entirely. Most teachers opt for the first approach, keeping their existing salary account while opening a separate BOP account that is funded by a standing instruction or manual transfer each month. However, transferring your salary to BOP simplifies the process since the installment is deducted automatically before the salary reaches your account.
Documents Required for Account Opening
Opening a BOP account requires a minimal set of documents. You will need your original CNIC for verification (the bank officer will scan it and return the original to you), two recent passport-size photographs with a white background, a copy of your employment letter or latest pay slip confirming your status as a government school teacher, and your initial deposit amount — typically Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 5,000 depending on the account type.
For e-bike scheme beneficiaries, BOP has waived most account opening fees and minimum balance requirements. You do not need to maintain a minimum balance in the account beyond what is needed for the monthly installment deduction. The bank has also simplified the Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements for government employees by accepting the service certificate as sufficient proof of income and occupation, eliminating the need for additional salary slips or tax returns.
Dedicated Counters at District Education Offices
To make the process as convenient as possible, the Bank of Punjab has established dedicated account opening counters at District Education Officer (DEO) offices across all 36 districts. These counters are staffed by BOP employees who specialize in the e-bike scheme and can process account opening requests in a single visit — typically within 30 to 45 minutes. The counters operate during regular office hours (9 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday) and may extend hours during peak registration periods.
If a dedicated counter is not available at your DEO office, any BOP branch in your district can process the account opening. When visiting a regular branch, mention that you are applying for the PTF E-Bike Scheme and present your selection notification or application reference number. The branch manager will assign you to the relevant officer who handles scheme-related accounts. Branch processing may take slightly longer than the dedicated counter — usually 1 to 2 hours — but the result is the same.
Step-by-Step Account Opening Process
Step one: Visit the BOP counter or branch with all required documents listed above. Step two: Fill out the account opening form provided by the bank. The form asks for personal details (name, CNIC, date of birth, address, phone number, email), employment details (school name, designation, BPS scale), and nominee information (the person who would be contacted in case of account-related issues). Step three: Submit the form along with your documents and photographs. The bank officer will verify your CNIC through biometric thumbprint verification linked to NADRA.
Step four: Make the initial deposit. This can be in cash or through a cheque from your existing bank account. Step five: Receive your account number and temporary ATM card on the spot. The permanent ATM/debit card will be mailed to your registered address within 7 to 10 working days. Step six: Activate your online banking and mobile banking through the BOP app, which allows you to monitor your account balance, track installment deductions, and download statements from your phone.
Setting Up the Installment Deduction
Once your account is open and you have been selected in the balloting, the installment deduction is configured during the post-selection documentation visit. The bank officer sets up a standing instruction that automatically deducts the installment amount (Rs. 3,600, Rs. 3,900, or Rs. 4,200 depending on your chosen model) on the first working day of each month. If your salary is deposited into a different bank, you must ensure sufficient funds are transferred to your BOP account before each deduction date.
If your salary is directly deposited into the BOP account, the deduction happens seamlessly before you can withdraw the salary. You receive an SMS notification each time an installment is deducted, showing the amount debited and the remaining balance of installments. At the end of the 36-month period, the standing instruction is automatically cancelled, and you receive a final SMS confirming that all installments have been completed and the bike is now fully owned by you.
Tips for a Smooth Banking Experience
Open your account before the balloting results are announced, not after. This proactive step saves you several days during the tight 7-day post-selection window. Ensure your phone number registered with BOP matches the one on your scheme application, since all banking notifications are sent to the registered mobile number. Download the BOP mobile app and set up alerts for all account transactions so you can immediately detect any unauthorized activity or missed deductions.
